Major (Category 5) Hurricane Michael made landfall in western Florida on October 10, 2018, just a little east of the Lynn Haven-Panama City metro area. One of only four Category 5 storms to make landfall in the United States, it was the strongest storm to strike the western panhandle of Florida since record-keeping began for the area in the 1880s.
